Zoobilee and Kid Zoobilee 2008 are scheduled for Friday,
June 27 and Saturday, June 28.
Zoobilee and Kid Zoobilee are the annual capital fund-raisers
for the Cameron Park Zoo.

Zoobilee will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27 with the
patron party and the general admission gate opens at 8 p.m.
Ticket packages range from a $2,500 table for 10 to $100 general
admission. This year’s theme is “Jewels of the Jungle” and music
will be provided by Classie Ballou.
The event will include a silent auction, an audible auction,
and raffle tickets for $10,000 in jewels. Area children can join
the celebration on Saturday, June 28, with Kid Zoobilee. The fun
begins at 5 p.m. with the patron party and then continues on as
the general admission gate opens at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $50 per child for patron admission and $25 per child
for general admission. The cost for parents to attend with their
children is $25 per adult. At least one parent is required to
stay and help supervise his or her children. Kid Zoobilee is for
children ages two to 12.
Activities will include games, crafts, face painting and plenty
of food. It is recommended that the children wear swimsuits because
some of the activities involve water to help them stay cool. Online

Teen Summer Programs
at the Library

The Central Library will sponsor a Teen Summer Party and Volunteen
Fair on Saturday, May 31 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy live music,
food, games and more.
Teens will have the opportunity to sign up for the summer reading
program and volunteer to work at the library with the children
and teen programs.
Other summer activities include gaming tournaments every Thursday
in June and July from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., movies at 2 p.m. every
Wednesday; and open game days on Saturdays in July from 2 p.m.
to 5 p.m. In addition on Saturdays in June from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.,
there will be a different activity or craft.

Summer Splash
The Waco-McLennan County Library and Waco Water Park will sponsor
Summer Splash Day on Tuesday, June 10 from noon to 4 p.m. Present
a library card or sign up for one at the Waco Water Park and receive

Youth Flag Football

Youth Flag Football begins Saturday, Aug. 30 for children ages
5 to 14. Registration is from June 2 to July 18 and is $45 per
child. Games will be played at Lake Air youth football fields
and will consist of eight regular games and playoffs. For more

Adult Summer
Softball Leagues
Adult Summer Season 2 softball kicks off July 28. Early registration
is $350 per team from June 23 to July 11. Late registration is
July 14 to July 18 and is $375 per team. Registration is open
to adults 18 and up. The games are played at River Bend Park and

Summer Showcase
The Waco-Mclennan County libraries will entertain children with
plays, magic, animals, music, crazy science, storytelling, and
puppets during their free Summer Showcase.

Beginner’s Genealogy Class
The Waco-McLennan County Library together with the Central Texas
Genealogical Society will sponsor a Beginner’s Genealogy Class on
Saturday, June 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central Library,
1717 Austin Ave.
The class is free and will cover topics such as how to use genealogy
forms, an introduction to basic records, Internet sources and research,
and a tour and orientation of the Genealogy Division’s collection
at the Central Library.
The instructor for the class will be Carol Scarborough of the Central

One Book, One Waco
The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce “Marley
and Me” as the Summer 2008 One Book, One Waco reading selection.

The good times and great music continue downtown on
June 6 with country classics Billy Joe Shaver and Tommy Alverson.
Presented by GENCO Federal Credit Union, this Brazos Nights concert
will get you on your feet for some down-home country music.
Also performing will be local country singer Kim Kelly.
The concert series concludes on July 4 with a lineup of blues legends
James Cotton and Diunna Greenleaf, and the H-E-B Fireworks Extravaganza.
The Brazos Nights concerts are free and will begin
at 7:30 p.m. at Indian Spring Park, next to the Suspension Bridge.

Waco Water Park

Bring the family and spend the day at the Waco Water
Park this summer. With two pools, two water slides, and fun for

Waco Wave Swim Team
The Waco Wave Swim Team is back for another season.
Swimmers ages 5 and up at all swimming levels are welcome to come
out and join “The Wave.”
Team members compete in local and regional meets as
well as having an opportunity to advance to the TAAF Games of Texas.
Registration is open from now through June 27 and is $80 per person.Practices

Swim Lessons

The Waco Water Park is offering swim lessons starting
June 9. There will be several sessions held throughout the summer.
Registration began on May 5 and the cost is $65 per person.
The Waco Water Park also has a variety of classes
and activities throughout the summer. Classes and activities include
Guard Start, Water Volleyball, Water Aerobics, Movie Nights, Dog
Days, and different rental options for birthdays and private parties.

Summer Camps

City of Waco Parks and Recreation summer camps kick
off June 4. South Waco, Bledsoe-Miller, and Dewey Recreation Centers
are all offering summer day camps Monday through Friday from 7:30
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for ages 5 to 13.
Children will participate in indoor and outdoor activities,
arts and crafts, games, field trips and much more. The registration
fee per child is $50 and the camp cost is $160 per session.

Camp Cameron is another exciting summer camp that
begins on June 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
for ages 5 to 13.
Camp Cameron is an outdoor adventure camp that offers
campers a mix of environmental and recreational activities such
as hiking, archery, kayaking, swimming, and nature studies. The
registration fee is $50 per camper and $65 a week.

History Day Camp
The Museum Association of Waco will sponsor “Making
Tracks in History Day Camp” on June 16-20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
for students in 4th - 6th grade.
Walk in the footsteps of a Ranger, a train engineer,
an entrepreneur, an athlete or a naturalist while enjoying crafts,
games and activities. The cost is $100 per child and need-based
scholarships are available.

Cameron Park Centennial

In cooperation with the City of Waco, Baylor University
is conducting research for a comprehensive history of William Cameron
Park to be presented as a part of the upcoming Cameron Park Centennial
Celebration in 2010.
In order to achieve this goal, the help of the citizens
of Waco and McLennan County is essential. We would like the public
to share their photos, film, postcards, and memories to help illuminate
how Cameron Park has been experienced and viewed throughout the
last century.

Juneteenth Carnival
