HISTORY
The R. B. Hoover Library originally opened in 1967 in
the Lake Air Mall and was known as the Lake Air Station. Shortly after
opening it was renamed for Brad Hoover, a longtime library supporter
and board member.
The library operated very successfully in this location
for 34 years, moving and enlarging several times within the mall. With
the sale of the mall in 2001 and its proposed demolition, the library
was forced to relocate. With the support of the city administration
and the Friends of the Library, the library was able to move to its
new location in January 2002 with three times its former space. For
years the Hoover Library has been the busiest of the community libraries
and that trend continues. The spring and summer of 2002 have seen an
amazing support from the community for this new library.
